What Are Cosmetic Dental Crowns?
Cosmetic dental crowns are custom-made restorations that cover the visible portion of a natural tooth. They can improve the colour, shape, size and proportions of teeth while also helping restore chewing function where clinically appropriate.
Before treatment, your dentist will carefully assess your teeth, bite and gum health. The tooth is then prepared to create sufficient space for the crown. Each crown is custom-designed to suit your individual dental characteristics and securely fitted over the prepared tooth.
Modern cosmetic dentistry goes beyond creating whiter, straighter-looking teeth. The focus is on achieving a natural balance between tooth shape, colour, smile line and facial features, while prioritising the preservation of healthy natural teeth.
At Worldwide Dental Hospital, every crown treatment plan is tailored to the individual, with the aim of creating a natural, harmonious smile that balances aesthetics with comfortable, functional biting and chewing.

Benefits of Cosmetic Dental Crowns

Enhanced Smile Aesthetics
Improve the appearance of discoloured, chipped or unevenly shaped teeth, as well as certain gaps or irregularities in tooth proportions.

Natural-Looking Colour
Modern dental porcelain are designed to replicate the translucency and light-reflecting properties of natural teeth, creating a brighter smile without an artificial appearance.

Personalised Tooth Design
The shape, size, proportions and shade of each crown can be customised to complement your facial features, smile line and individual preferences.

Restored Chewing Function
For teeth that are damaged or have lost significant structure, dental crowns can help restore their shape, strength and chewing function when clinically indicated.

Long-Lasting Durability
High-quality dental crowns, when properly designed, fitted and maintained, can provide reliable function and appearance for many years.

Excellent Stain Resistance
Dental porcelain generally resist surface staining better than natural tooth enamel, helping maintain their colour despite regular exposure to coffee, tea and other staining foods and drinks.

Relatively Short
Treatment Time
Compared with some smile enhancement treatments that require longer treatment periods, dental crowns can deliver noticeable improvements within a relatively short time, depending on your dental condition and treatment plan.

A Balance of Aesthetics and Function
When carefully planned and fitted, dental crowns do more than enhance the appearance of your smile. They also aim to maintain a comfortable bite, effective chewing function and long-term dental stability.
When Are Dental Crowns Not Recommended?
- Teeth and gums affected by untreated conditions such as gingivitis, periodontal disease or active tooth decay.
- Teeth with significant mobility, weakened roots or insufficient supporting structures.
- Severe bite misalignment that requires orthodontic treatment or other corrective procedures.
- Severely protruding, retruded or misaligned teeth where crown placement would require excessive removal of natural tooth structure.
- Healthy teeth with good shape and colour that do not require restorative treatment.
- Uncontrolled severe teeth grinding, which increases the risk of crown fractures, chipping or reduced restoration longevity.
- Uncontrolled medical conditions that require careful assessment before treatment.
- Children and adolescents whose teeth and jaws have not fully developed, unless there is a specific clinical indication.

Cosmetic Dental Crown Procedure and Treatment Timeline at Worldwide Dental Hospital
Step 1: Dental Examination and Treatment Planning
Your dentist will examine your oral health and take X-rays to assess your teeth and surrounding tissues. Based on the findings, they will recommend the number of crowns needed, porcelain materials and use Digital Smile Design (DSD) technology to preview the expected aesthetic results.Step 2: Tooth Preparation and Dental Impressions
Depending on your dental condition, your dentist will carefully remove a thin layer of tooth enamel to create space for the crowns, preserving as much natural tooth structure as possible. Digital scans or conventional impressions will then be taken and sent to the dental laboratory for precise crown fabrication.Step 3: Temporary Crown Placement
While your permanent crowns are being made, temporary composite crowns will be fitted to maintain your appearance and chewing function. Your dentist will also review the proposed colour, shape and length of your teeth with you, making any necessary adjustments before the final crowns are fabricated.Step 4: Crown Try-In and Adjustments
Once your crowns are ready, your dentist will try them in to check their fit, colour and bite alignment. If necessary, further adjustments to the shape or colour will be made to achieve the desired appearance and comfortable chewing function.Step 5: Final Crown Fitting and Completion
Once all details have been finalised, the crowns will be permanently secured using specialised dental cement. Your dentist will then check and refine your bite to ensure a harmonious smile and stable, long-term chewing function.Treatment Time: Typically 2–3 appointments, depending on the number of crowns required and the complexity of your case.
